What is genuine leather - Part 2

Posted by Daniel Pusilo on

We have learned a lot about leather since we started our company in 2012. Hopefully this information not only provides you with a better understanding of leather itself, but also helps you discern the quality of products as a consumer.

Why are leather blemishes important?
Because genuine leather features blemishes and will distinguish it from other materials.
What are leather blemishes?
Blemishes are natural imperfections on the surface of the hide that occur during the animal's life span. These can include scars, scratches, insect bites, wrinkles, stretch marks, as well as grain and pigment variations.
Blemishes are important because they provide the authenticity that the leather is from the height of an animal.
Also, blemishes provide character to leather which speaks to the unique character and natural beauty of leather goods, which many people appreciate.
What are the different types of genuine leather?
Full Grain Leather: Considered to be the absolute best quality, most desirable, known for its grain, strength, durability and unique patina that can develop over time. *This is the leather style we use for our accessories.
Top Grain Leather: Considered the next best quality leather, but the surface has been sanded or buffed to remove some imperfections.
Corrected Grain Leather: This type of leather has been significantly sanded to reduce or remove imperfections and may feature a printed grain pattern.
Split Leather:  Made from the lower layers of the hide, these leathers are often thinner  and less durable.
Bonded Leather: Considered to be the lowest grade of leather because it is made from scraps and fibers and then bonded together, buffed and sanded.
We hope that this information to be helpful and makes you a more discerning consumer when you are in the market for a gift for that special GOLFER in your life.
